Scottish Friends of Alyn

ALYN HOSPITAL is one of the world’s leading specialist centres for the active and intensive rehabilitation of infants, children and adolescents, regardless of religion or ethnic origin, who are suffering from a broad range of physical disabilities – both congenital and acquired.

  • ALYN HOSPITAL is the ONLY FACILITY of its kind in Israel.
  • Alyn has 93 beds, 11,500 Out Patient visits per year (for both assessment and treatment) and a wide range of Day Care services.
  • As a private non-profit hospital, Alyn receives NO automatic government funding and is only partially reimbursed for its multidisciplinary and individualized rehabilitation programmes by payments from official referring agencies, the balance (never less than 25% of the running budget) being made up by private donations.
  • 100 % of the cost of the purchase of new equipment for medical, educational, rehabilitation and/or household purposes, special one-time projects or programmes, research, development and renovations has to be raised through charitable donations.

For more information, see the Alyn Hospital website.

The Scottish Friends of Alyn resulted from a group visit to Israel and to Alyn in March 1987. The group’s first success was the provision of Yorkhill chariots (a specialised mobility aid manufactured in Scotland). The aim is now to make Alyn more widely known and to raise money for the children’s various needs, including specially modified computers (see pictures above), wheelchairs adapted for use in showers, so that girls and boys can have privacy, and numerous therapeutic toys & games.

The Scottish Friends of Alyn have an annual appeal, and in addition many contributors give a donation to Alyn to mark special birthdays, anniversaries etc. If you would like to make a donation, then please contact the Treasurer, Scottish Friends of Alyn, Synagogue Chambers, 4A Salisbury Road, Edinburgh, EH16 5AB, or contact us and we will forward your message.
