Adult Education
At Edinburgh Hebrew Congregation we provide a range of adult educational activities for all ages and abilities, open to members and non-members alike.
At present all classes are held on zoom. The groups are small, informal, friendly and interactive. For Modern Hebrew please contact us. For all other classes please contact the Rabbi.
Tanakh Class:
Mondays 6pm led by Rabbi Rose and Eli Atad
Class members take turns reading the Hebrew or Aramaic text as well as the English translation and share interpretations and understandings. We are completing the Prophets (Nevi’im) and currently studying the book of Judges (Shof’tim).
Parshah of the Week Shiur:
Thursdays 6pm led by Rabbi Rose
Class members take turns in reading aloud the Rabbi’s English translation and key Hebrew phrases and then the interpretations by various sages which we go on to discuss.
Modern Hebrew with Eli Atad:
Beginners: (1) Thursdays 7-8pm; (2) Thursdays 8-9pm
Intermediate: Sunday 5-6pm
The Beginners class is based on “Everyday Hebrew” by Eliezer Tirkel; the Advanced class uses articles from the Jerusalem Post. Activities include reading aloud, conversation, writing, grammar, role play and games. Some light homework is involved!
